Prof. Dr. Abdürrahim KOÇYİĞİT
Prof. Dr. Abdurrahim Koçyigit was born in Konya in 1963. He graduated from Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine in 1989 and completed his specialization in Medical Biochemistry at Selçuk University in 1994.
He began his academic career at Harran University Faculty of Medicine in 1995, where he was appointed Associate Professor in 1999 and Full Professor in 2005. Since 2012, he has been serving at Bezmialem Vakıf University Faculty of Medicine as Professor and Head of the Department of Medical Biochemistry.
In 2016, he founded the YÖK-approved Traditional and Complementary Medicine Advanced Research and Application Center (GETAMER) with the support of the Istanbul Development Agency. He currently serves as the Director of GETAMER, Responsible Director of GETAT, and Chair of the GETAT Clinical Research Ethics Committee.
His research focuses on the biological effects of plant- and bee-derived products in chronic diseases such as cancer and diabetes, particularly their genotoxic, cytotoxic, apoptotic, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory properties, as well as their roles in intracellular signaling pathways, through both preclinical and clinical studies.
Prof. Koçyigit has published 237 articles in SCI-indexed international journals and 81 articles in national peer-reviewed journals. He has authored six book chapters, served as translation editor for two books, and editor of one book.
He holds Ministry of Health-certified qualifications in Phytotherapy (2017) and Ozone Therapy (2022). In 2019, he received the Presidential Sabuncuoğlu Şerafettin Award in Traditional and Complementary Medicine. In 2025, he was listed among Stanford University’s “World’s Most Influential Scientists.” He has also been a member of the Interuniversity Council since 2024.
His h-index is 55 (Google Scholar), with 9,879 citations. He is proficient in English, married, and has five children.
