Prof. Dr. Hanefi ÖZBEK
He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Ege University in 1991. He took part in the establishment of the Music Department of the Faculty of Education at Yüzüncü Yıl University and the Van Turkish Music Association. In 1998, he was awarded the title and authority of Doctor of Science (PhD) in Pharmacology and Toxicology, and in the same year, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at the Faculty of Medicine of Yüzüncü Yıl University.
In 2008, he was appointed as the Deputy General Director of Pharmaceuticals and Pharmacy at the Ministry of Health. In 2011, he received the title of Associate Professor in Medical Pharmacology. In 2012, he was appointed as the Vice President of the Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency under the Ministry of Health. In the same year, he joined Istanbul Medipol University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Pharmacology as a faculty member. He also contributed to the establishment of the Vocational School of Health Services at Istanbul Medipol University and was appointed as its Director.
In 2014, he was appointed as the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Design and Architecture at the same university, where he also took part in the establishment of the Department of Turkish Music. Having conducted studies in the fields of pharmacology, biostatistics, and Turkish music theory, Özbek was appointed as a Professor of Medical Pharmacology in 2016.
In October 2020, he joined İzmir Bakırçay University and was appointed as the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine. In 2022, he received a PhD in Turkish Religious Music from Marmara University. In August 2024, he was appointed as the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Uşak University.
He began his music education at the age of 11 with the mandolin, later studying the saz and the plectrum-played tambur. His articles in the field of music have been published in various journals. His book titled “Main Scale in Turkish Music/Türk Müziğinde Ana Dizi” was published by Pan Publishing in 2014, 2017, and 2022; his book “Rhythmic Reading with Turkish Music Usuls/ Türk Müziği Usûlleriyle Ritmik Okuma” was published by Dahi Publishing in 2017 and by Istanbul Medipol University in 2018.
His album titled “Another Autumn/Bir Başka Hazan”, consisting of 16 instrumental compositions, was released online; in 2020, a book and CD titled “Reflections from the Heart/Gönülden Esintiler”, composed of instrumental pieces from this album, were published by Bemol Publishing. His books “Turkish Music Form Knowledge/ Türk Müziği Form Bilgisi,” “Reflections from the Heart-2/Gönülden Esintiler-2,” and “Turkish Music Usul Knowledge/Türk Müziği Usûl Bilgisi” were published by SAGE Publishing in 2020. The second editions of “Turkish Music Form Knowledge/Türk Müziği Form Bilgisi” and “Turkish Music Usul Knowledge/Türk Müziği Usûl Bilgisi” were published by İzge Publishing in 2022, and his book “Turkish Music Solfeggio/Türk Müziği Solfeji” was published by Voice Production in 2023.
